iPod displays a sad iPod icon
If your iPod displays a sad iPod icon, it indicates a hardware issue. If you are able to force the iPod into Disk Mode, then it may not be a hardware issue, therefore, you should try to restore your iPod with the lastest software.
Very low battery
If the charging icon is animated and your iPod's battery does not charge, the major causes are listed below:
Low-powered USB port
iPods that connect to USB port, require a high-powered USB port. Keyboards and some USB hubs will not charge an iPod. Try to connect iPod directly to the computer or to a USB AC power adapter.
FireWire (IEEE1394) ports
The FireWire (IEEE1394) ports on some Windows-compatible computer may not charge your iPod when you plug it in. Click here for more information about how to maximum iPod battery life.
Reset your iPod
If the iPod video (5th generation) freezes or there is no response, please make sure your iPod is fully charged and follow these steps to reset your iPod:
- Ensure the Hold switch is in the off position (not showing orange indicator).
- Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, approximately 6 to 10 seconds.
If the above steps did not work, try to connect iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electronic outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Please ensure the computer is turned on and is not set to go to sleep.
